Scientific Results : Success stories from our cycle and triathlon coaching clients
Scientific Coaching bases its principles of cycle coaching on scientific theories combined with personal communication and interaction. Scientific principles allow for coaching to be prescribed in a time efficient manner, minimizing the risk of over-training, under-performing or simply not being able to fulfill your ambitions because there aren't enough hours in the day. In short "ensuring your effort counts"/

Dear Auriel; Here's some snaps for your album of satisfied customers! Podium Places : Grimpeur 2004 !

Hi Auriel - I thought that I'd copy you in on last month's training
logs for the record & just to say thanks for the last year.
The season has been a great success & really enjoyable. When I first came
to see you I said that I wanted to turn top ten placings into top 5, top3 on
a regular basis. This has definitely been achieved. This year has produced a
win, 3 second places, 2 thirds, a fourth & 6 other top 10 results in open
events & wins in 5 out of 6 of our evening club 10 series + several wins
on the track.
In addition to this I've lower pb's at 10, 25 miles & would've lowered my
own club record for 50 miles but for a punture in the last mile. These times
should enable me to retain the 25 & 50 mile club championships.
Thanks again for all your help.

After a 1-2-1 Training Day .............
Just thought I'd share with you my pleasure in some of the changes I've already
made to my cycling. Did a 40 mile hilly ride around Hebden Bridge today with
my fitter friends and applied the gear changes with great success. I was not
left miles behind on the hills, rarely used my lowest gears and had much less
gear clunking. Also kept my legs spinning faster - on the rare occasion we saw
any flat roads.
Didn't do so well on the descents but these were really steep hills, need to
practice somewhere with smaller hills.
Any way this is really a thanks for yesterday. I found it very helpful and am
delighted to see some immediate difference.
Best wishes
Jane
First Ironman ;
I visited you last November for a 1-2-1 session for a plan to help get me through my first Ironman event in Frankfurt on 23 July. Although I only visited you on one occasion, the advice and information you provided has been beneficial throughout my preparation, in ensuring that I trained in the optimal training zones.
I'm glad to say that despite the weather (wetsuits were banned, we had a monsoon on the bike and 34 degrees of heat on the run) I completed my first IM in just under 13 hours. I'm not saying I wouldn't have completed it without your help, I just know that by training in accordance with your advice meant I began each discipline with the confidence that I would complete it.
In short, thank you.
Regards
Mick Pullin
Etape Finisher 2006
Auriel,
I had a bit of a disastrous ride, but still managed to finish.
Everything was going to plan - the Isoard was a long, tough climb and I tried to conserve some energy for later. A quick 6min feed stop and a good descent, put me in a decent place, although at this point the silver medal (8:01 @ 23.5kmh) was looking tough. Then it all went wrong at around 120km - my rear gear cable snapped at the shifter.
I made it to the top of the Lauretet, and I was hampered on the descent without any big gears.
The road was still open (it closed 5mins later) and I started the climb of Alpe d'Huez. It was hot and a tough climb, but I was pretty determined and still had some strength and power, and I made it to the top in 1:34 which was I was pleased with. Final time was 10:23 (4944th) , so approx 8:53 (~2600th) taking off the lost time - inaccurate I know as I had the rest, but did complete the last 65km with a disabled bike.
What I'm sure of is that I was in better shape than last year, thanks to your training programme.
Bike Fit .............
Auriel,
I came to you to have my bike setup carried out (back in early March 2006) and
the results have been fantastic. The difference in my riding position is amazing
and I can't believe how I was able to ride in the position I was before the
bike setup. The lower back pain has all but disappeared. I still have the odd
twinge off the bike but it's not because of my position. I can generally feel
that I am getting more power out than before. Thanks for helping me and I will
hopefully be doing some 10 mile TTs this year and aiming to do the Verulam 25
TT. Many thanks again.
KInd Regards
Stephen Hewitt (Verulam CC)
Dear Auriel, Thanks for your email. I did have a great time in the Pyrenees, amongst others, we rode the Col du Tourmalet and did the same side as the tour de france route, - just not so fast! I hope to go back next year, but for 10 days as it was a rush to "bag" as many cols as possible before exhaustion set in! I felt much stronger than before, and was very pleased with my progress - so much so, that I've just booked a weeks cycling in Italy, (first week of September), which should again be quite hilly. After the Pyrenees, I had a break, but have been doing some Turbo training. I've started again properly this week, and feel the harder sessions you set leading up to the Pyrenees First Time Mountain Cycling Holidayer !
Auriel.. Let me start by saying a big thank you. I completed the Etape in 10:29. I'm totally confident that I could have done it 30 to 45 mins faster, but I really made an effort to pace myself (see attached HRM file). I think I took it a little bit too easy, but my overall objective was to avoid any cramp and finish. Which is precisely what I did! With 35km to go I realised I had a good bit left in the tank and started to crank it up a bit (managing to lose people who were drafting, very satisfying!) Etape finisher
Dear Auriel I wanted to write and thank you for your help with my training for the Etape. I completed the ride in 5 hrs 32 mins, easily inside the gold medal standard I was aiming for (5 hrs 55 mins) and actually inside the standard for the age group below! I was 525th scratch (521st real based on time).
Dear Dr Forrester; I have just returned from completing the Etape du Tour and while on the trip I spoke to a chap called Ian who had done a fantastic ride. He was singing your praises and I would like to chat with you about possibly helping me - I hope I'm not old - coming up to 56.
Dear Auriel ; Good news, completed Etape 7 hrs 38, could have done under 7 if had not been held up in congestion on first climb, traffic was heavy, never mind.
Hi Auriel; Hope you had a good time in Manchester. Well, what can I say, I did as you told me and rested all week, and on Saturday, with a 20 minute Morning After warm up on a perfect day, I did 21.52. Personal Best !!
Hi Auriel! Here we are, end of July already and not really settled down; some good rides/results - a small no. of Vet (std) placings and some 2/3 fastest in club events and occasional course PB. My time in the Bellevue 50 was the best for 3 years and 3min. better than my 2001 best on the F/1.
Auriol; I've now finished my (racing) season and I'm writing to wrap up my training for the year. My main goal was to contribute to beating our club 12hr team TT record which had stood for exactly 50 years - and I achieved that yesterday. We added 31 miles to the record and I did 232 miles - 12 miles more than my target distance. A club record !!
Good morning, I took August as a bit of a break from racing as I was tired but kept training hard. I managed a 55.44 yesterday, second place by 11 seconds and so much faster than I thought possible this year. Everyone has asked me how I did it! Last week I was first Vet 5th place, 3 primes and £60 richer in a road race and was away for all but 3 miles of the race by myself. Although it's late in the year for any form it has really made feel optimistic for next year Thanks Success !
Hello Auriel, I just had to let you know how the 100-mile TT went on Sunday. I went into it feeling fully prepared and even optimistic (as the weather was going to be kind.) I felt I had been going well and then the week of June 9 slacked off, cut quantity and rested. So totally pleased. Just thought you would like to know that, I think, I did well and because of you went into it feeling ready and up for it. A personal best by 49 mins !!
I am pleased to say that I managed to achieve silver in the Etape - by the thinnest of margins. My time was 9.10 - exactly the cut off for the silver award. That was 22.03kph over the 201.9km course. It was much the hardest thing I have ever done in my life but I was able to achieve the target I had set. The climb of the Bagargui is seared into my memory for life! Thanks for your help - without the training programme I would never have been able to climb even the first mountain. I'm already planning next year's event. (Etape 2003 - less than 40% finished !)
Hi..... just a quick note. Didn't ride on the 31st Aug but rode yesterday. Did a 53.47 winning by a minute and a half from Camel Valley rider and beating regular rivals by three minutes rather than one and a half. Seem to have moved up another notch in fitness. My legs feel so good?! Regional TT Champion 2003
Apart from the hand, foot problems, which are not to do with muscular issues, I had almost no muscular problems. You might say for the PBP riding was the easy part. Thank you for helping me to get in shape. (Paris Brest Paris Finisher)
